ringlunatic: (Ronnie/Ali for the win!)
Guys, GUYS!

The bastard! I've only seen the last 20 points or so.

They are a ridiculously cute little family. Too bad these computers don't have sound: I'd love to hear what's been said. I'm gonna have to be patient, until I can download it all and watch it full of glee.

And again: please SOMEBODY hug Ali. Seriously. He's too cute to pout this much.

ETA: It was a bit of anti climax final, wasn't it? Mostly they are, though. Nothing can simply beat that fightback!Ken against Mark J. That was easily the most exciting Worlds final in a loooong time. (Okay, since the black ball one, maybe?)

ETA2: How happy does Ronnie look? Awwwww. He's so cute with his kids.

ETA3: Also, who is that adorable old guy? (I really must get back to work)

ETA4: Oh God. I had too much wine. Again. Why do I end up drinking too much wine EVERY evening since I'm in Florence? (I know why. We all have so much fun. You hardly notice you're drinking. It doesn't really make getting up any easier, though)
ringlunatic: (TMB!Anti-stress cats)
How TENSE is this frame between Joe and Ali? They both seem to collapse a bit under pressure.

ETA: ALI WON! How fucking awesome is that? The two 147 men are playing each other in the final! And both really deserved it and as far as I have seen they were indeed the two best of the rest. WEEEE!!!

Now new kind request: a Ronnie/Ali icon? I don't really care what pictures you use, but how can I post about the finale without a fitting icon for the most perfect match EVER (seriously: World Final snooker, 35 frames, two favourite players AND Jan Verhaas is the referee... DUDE)
ringlunatic: (Goth Detectives)
Ali has given up, hasn't he? He looks so unhappy :(

Wy does nobody give him a hug?

ETA: THANK GOD. This whole semi-final is slowly going towards a 17-16 scoreline.
ringlunatic: (TMB!pool (but I pretend it's snooker!))
Just an observation:

I'm unable to watch snooker / check scores online = Ronnie playing magical the bastard.

I'm able to watch snooker on the livestream (I am doing that now in the library, while also trying to work on my presentation) = Ronnie makes stupid mistakes the idiot.

The good thing is that Hendry will come closer again, and it will be a bit more exciting.

(btw, if you replace Ronnie with Ali you get the same thing)

ETA: WTF @ Ronnie's fluke. Poor Stephen. COME ON, BOY!

ETA2: Ronnie. Is in the FINAL. Of the WORLD Championship. And I'm in Florence. WHAT HAPPENED? That last frame was insane! Hendry definitely should have won that one.

Also, anyone who can make me a livejournal icon with those pics of Ronnie and Ali when they've just made their 147s and are full of glee and punching the air gets eternal glory and love from my side. And an internet cookie.
ringlunatic: (Snooker)
I'm away and snooker has gone all mad. I clearly should make sure to be away next year as well, I can't wait to see it all.

As far as I can gather (and please fill my life with CAPSLOCK!SQUEE):

Ronnie has to play Stephen Hendry in the semi-final: HOW THRILLINGLY AWESOME IS THAT?!?!
Ronnie has made a 147 and is now the only player to make 9 of those in official tournaments.
Ali Carter also made a 147 (his first) and is now the only player who made a second 147 in an official tournament.
Peter Ebdon DIDN'T make a 147. MWUAHAHAHAHAHA! I kept thinking about that quote from Ronnie where he said that he dreamed about Ebdon making a 147 in 5 minutes 19 seconds (as if!).
Ebdon is OUT and Lovely Ali is still in.
Only players I actually like can win the World Title now.

(Florence is still pretty. And awesome. And I might actually squee about that after Sheffield is done and over.)

ETA: Maguire is out... how shocking is that?!?! I was convinced that Maguire would become World Champ! (Not that I'm very good at predicting...). So, Ronnie is going to be world no. 1 now, isn't he?
ringlunatic: (Ronnie)
I'm in Florence right now. It rained all day, but Oh My God the pretty! Plus, Anne has come to stay for a couple of days as well, so YAY!

The trip to the airport was a bit shit. Our plane was delayed with more than 4 hours and we arrived way past midnight and then still had to get to the place we are staying! So I didn't really have much sleep and a long day walking around in Florence.

When we were waiting I actually managed to watch some snooker, cause the others were waiting in a pub in the airport where they played it! Typically I completely missed Ronnie's 147, but I'm going to YouTube it in a sec ;) I did however notice that when I said I loved snooker two of my group immediately said "How could you? It's so boring!" and then it turned out they didn't even know the rules... WTF!?!

Anyway. I'm off to do some research. And watch Ronnie's 147. The library is heaven here.

ETA: Fucking hell, how pretty was that split from red and pink? That was amazing!
ringlunatic: (Hopeful Street Art)
Do you know this thing that you are all panicked and think you are going to fail life and then suddenly, within 15 minutes, everything is solved and perfect?

*deep sigh of relief*

This afternoon I will fly to Florence and miss out on the rest of the World Championship! And I'm slowly starting to think that I know what I will be doing there (aka my 30+ minute presentation is slowly starting to take shape) ;)
ringlunatic: (Tea!)
I absolutely cannot concentrate on anything today. I have been trying for hours now, and nothing useful happened yet. But now I made tea. So all should be well.

I also turned on snooker livestream. This may sound like a stupid plan, but when people are playing that I don't feel very strongly about (like at this moment, even though I feel I'm going to seriously like Liang. Oh, and Perry!), snooker always helps me to focus. I guess it's the quiet sounds that it makes, I dunno.
ringlunatic: (Richard!nerd)
Can't we just have a Mark J Williams/Ronnie O'Sullivan final? Cause those boys... THEY GO FOR SNOOKERS! Both of them!!! It just looks like it's going to be a long and awesome match with a very close score-line and lots of greatness.

(and I haven't watched Doctor Who, so please don't spoil me. I won't cause it's a two parter this time and I will be away when the next episode is shown, so I'm gonna try to be patient. Luckily the snooker boys are being pretty helpful).

ETA: Also Other Snooker Boys (Mainly Those Who Lost Today): stop being wankers. Cause the story about the table being shit and the cloth being rubbish is probably true. There have been weird bounces and what not, but guess what? Those opponents, who by the way completely TRASHED you, played on the very same table. With the very same problems. And they managed well. I agree it's a shame that during the WORLD Championship (aka The Big One) it's foolish to have these kind of problems, but it's not as if the table only switched on the rubbishes while you were playing (Yes, John and Shaun) and was sparkling perfect when the others played.

And a tip for Shaun Murphy. If you want to have the SLIGHTEST chance of being liked... don't be an arrogant twat and say things like: This is the world championship, the gala event we all look forward to. Yes, I'll hold my hands up, I missed some shots I shouldn't have but there were a lot of problems out there that cost me the match. I think the biggest problem was your arrogant ass. You don't loose 13-4 only because of a bad bounce. Ali was better, YOU are a bad loser.

ETA2: Ronnie's long pots are absolute shit. I am not watching it all, since I still have stuff to do, but has any gotten in at all? He seems to miss them by a mile. Oh, Mark J... why did you drop out of the top 16 again? Cause clearly when you are challenged you can still put up one hell of a fight.
ringlunatic: (LOM!Master)
(I love how worldsnooker has already put Ali Carter as the winner in the match against Murph.)

Anyway. When is Stephen Maguire going to get his first real challenge? I already said I think that he's going to win the entire thing, but still, I can't help but wonder...

His first round was against Anthony Hamilton (10-3). As much as I love Anthony, he hasn't had a fantastic season, unlike Maguire, so this wasn't really a surprising end score. Now Maguire plays Neil. Now as much as I love Neil (notice a theme here?), he hasn't had a brilliant season. And I know it's still a long way before Maguire actually wins, but I think he will. Rather easily. Then he should play either Perry or Bingham. My guess is Perry. Again, love him, hasn't had that much of a fantastic season. Still, I think Perry could be interesting. But I think his first REAL challenge is going to be playing the winner of the match Ebdon/Carter. Both are fighters and can dig their heels in. But that would be the semi-final. I really thing Stephen is going to win this year. And good for him: he should win the damn thing at least ONCE.

Yesterday I also realized that Ebdon has the potential to be a really great, well loved player. He is a good snooker player, who takes interesting and unique shots and pots amazing things. Only has bloody behaviour around the table! It makes me blood boil just watching it with all the slowness, walking and looking, while everybody and it's grandmother already know what he's going to do.

Anyway. Back to work.
ringlunatic: (TMB!pool (but I pretend it's snooker!))
WAIT?!?! How did it get 9-12 for Ryan Day?!?! Isn't it allowed by the snooker gods to have John win and Murphy loose (ohpleaseohpleaseohplease!) on the same day?

BOOH! Snooker Gods, BOOH!

(my parents just killed the telly. Thank God for livestream and interweb!)
ringlunatic: (Fashion!queen)
Ronnie is back in black! And Liu is too, but still with added pink! Oh boys! Liu really is all kinds of lovely. I wish he didn't play Ronnie in the first round, though. Ronnie must get at least one round further than Murphy or he will be world no. 1 all year! Although I think Maguire can still stop him from that as well.

The livestream is flawless on the uni-computers. What a relief ;)

Snooker really should not make me as happy as it does.

ETA: Bloody hell, Ronnie just potted a pretty pink! I'm clearly getting the hang of look at the livestream while he's actually playing. Although it probably does help that he appears to be a bit better than yesterday.

I'm getting awfully distracted. Must. Focus.
ringlunatic: (Snooker)
I haven't really talked much about snooker yet, have I? I think it's partly because I'm still a bit in denial for missing out on the entire second week (although it seems that I might be in Venice on the last day of the final, where I've never been before and it fills me with squee just to think about being there), but also because I really haven't seen much. Still. I just looked at my tags. Sheffield 2006 has 27 uses Sheffield 2007 30. Sheffield 2008 just 3. Booh!

Anyway. Ronnie is really not playing as well as he should, is he? I think it's because he's blinded by the Cute of Liu Chuang and his adorable pink waistcoat. Seriously, my brain just went 'ZOMGCUTENESS!' everytime they showed him. I seem to have a knack for turning into livestream everytime that Ronnie is not on the table. Like the new hair (although clearly it's not as epic is The Hair). Still, 5-4 in the lead.

Ken is out. The commentators keep saying things like "end of an era" and "last time at the Crucible" and I think they are WRONG. I really like them normally, but they must be wrong about this. Ken is the Comeback King! (okay, together with Ebdon and his annoying fight back from Jamie Cope. NOT ON, Ebdon!) Still, :(

I haven't really seen much. I saw Steve Davis fucking things up on the pink in the 17th frame of his match against Bingham and so loosing his match. I've seen Graeme playing well (YAY!), but Perry being better (still YAY! I like that guy!). Fu is out. Matthew is out as well. Selby too! YES! Lots of Marks had to play each other in the first round: very strange. Maybe a Mark will win then? Anthony Hamilton is currently being trashed by Maguire. Now IF I would bet, I would have put my money on Maguire winning the Championship this year (I mean, he's clearly once going to do that, right? So why not this year?), but still... bit harsh to completely trash dear Anthony.

John Higgins has clearly gone wrong a bit. He suggests to do the Worlds in another country than England. NO, John. NO! And I tell you what: I would even say no if they would have it in my backyard (which I don't have, but that's not the point). Sheffield = World Championship Snooker. But I agree that a nice tournament in Russia or Poland would be smart. Snooker appears to be very popular there if you just look at the amount of fans that come from those regions. And more snooker = very good idea.

Back to work.
ringlunatic: (Blur!Coffee & TV)
I'm turning in such a multi-tasker or a sport geek.

Currently I'm:
- listening to Sigur Ròs
- organizing and summarizing articles
- have the Amstel Gold Race on livestream
- have the Hendry/Allen match on livestream (seriously, all is good in the world when Stephen Hendry is playing well at Sheffield)
- have snooker livescore on (for the other match)
- have football livescore on (because PSV is rubbish and lacks the ability to win like a normal team would)

ETA: Okay, I clearly shouldn't have said that about Hendry :( And Allen's haircut is a bit... odd. But bonus points for trying. (Also, there is this one woman in the audience who looks a lot like Tatcher)
ringlunatic: (TMB!pool (but I pretend it's snooker!))
World Championship Snooker, or Why It's Going To Be Rubbish

1. Murphy and Selby have a very reasonable chance of winning it. Thankfully they cannot end up playing each other in the final.
2. I will be missing everything after April 27th. EVERYTHING! I haven't missed any World Championship Snooker since I was born! (Seriously! My parents always had it on!)
3. Oh God, Murphy or Selby are going to win it :(
4. John Higgins and Matthew Stevens are going to have to play each other in the FIRST ROUND. Why is that fair, exactly?
5. I will miss most of it. Even the first week, since I will be ridiculously busy :(
6. I have no faith in any of my favourites
7. Graeme (yes! I know. I'm the only one who likes him, hush!) is depressed :(
8. BOOH!

ringlunatic: (Richard!nerd)
I had the weirdest dream. I dreamed that snooker players were cycling the Tour de France and Ronnie felt really really hard in one of the corners. I even know why I dreamed it, cause I realized just before I went to sleep that the ending of the World Championship Snooker will probably be when I'm in Florence (well, I'd rather miss snooker than Radiohead to be honest!). At least I don't have to suffer through a final with Murphy then (cause I fear many fears. As much as I dislike him, he's actually really rather good), although I must find a way to stay sort of up to date (cause I'm a geek).

I have been sick the last couple of days and I thought it might had to do with my complete and utter fucked up sleeping schedule from these days. I have this because I barely slept the last 2 months due to piles of uni-work (and it hasn't ended yet. On the 14th I have to finished THREE papers, together 15,000 words! At least I'm more than half way with them at the moment!). So I basically tried to go to sleep before twelve the last couple of days. Flu hasn't stopped, though :(

The good news, however, is that I actually passed an exam I thought I had failed! YES! Not with brilliant marks, but at least that is one thing less to do! So instead of TWO exams I now have to do 'only' ONE. YAY!

Going to visit Anne today, even though I have the flu. Anne is going to leave the Netherlands next week because she's going to work in Italy for 4 months (I might just visit her when I have to be in Florence anyway, I believe it's not hours apart from each other) and considering she's my best friend I'm going to miss her like crazy. So I'll visit today. And I take loads of comedy with me, cause I want to try to convert her to the Mighty Boosh & The IT-Crowd. It already worked for Black Books, so it only seems a logical next step ;)
