ETA: Apparently it's all Meta-trolling and nothing else. Well done to the trolls!

ETA2: Or maybe not? I give up.

This is in the process of exploding all over the internet, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Amazon thinks you should be protected from certain books.

Another link to several blog posts on the subject.

Bottom line: If a book contains erotica, GLBT, feminist or non-standard sexuality, its sales rank has been pulled by Amazon to "protect" their user base from "adult content." This isn't limited to actual sex scenes in the book; some books are being stripped of their rank simply because they contain mention of alternate sexuality, sex in general, or feature a gay character. It also not limited to fiction, as several non-fiction books, biographies and memoirs have been affected as well.

Titles stripped of their sales rankings include "Bastard Out of Carolina," "Lady Chatterly's Lover," prominent romance novels, GLBTQ fiction novels, YA books, and narratives about gay people.

Also affected: Heather Has Two Mommies (yes, because that's 'adult' content, right thurr), and Hello Cruel World: 101 Alternatives to Suicide for Teens, Freaks and Other Outlaws, because SUICIDE PREVENTION IS OBSCENE WHAT.

Additionally: Dan Savage, Quentin Crisp, Randy Shilts, biographies of Oscar Wilde and Harvey Milk, Stephen Fry's memoir, and Brokeback Mountain.

A complete list of books affected can be found here.

ringlunatic: (Who!11)
I can't believe lots of people don't like 11 because of his haircut and/or general look.

WTF, people? So, because the Doctor is "ugly", the show is going to suck?
ringlunatic: (Star Trek)
I'm ridiculously excited about the upcoming Star Trek movie, and it doesn't even look that good. But I'm rewatching the old series and the new trailer has one of the best things ever that I put behind a cut to avoid spoiling anyone who doesn't want to be spoiled )

Did I mention yet that SIMON PEGG is in it as well??? *g*

And something completely unrelated to Star Trek (although there will be a comic as well): this is absolutely ridiculous. They could arrest me as well then, cause I'm sure there is some wrong stuff to be found in my comic collection...

Banksy's animatronic hot-dogs have sparked complaints from people "unhappy about seeing two hot-dogs performing a sex act", he said.

Rodin Thinker Found After Dutch Heist

THE HAGUE, Jan. 22, 2007
—A Rodin Thinker, one of seven bronze statues stolen from the garden of the Singer Laren Museum near Amsterdam last week, was found badly damaged on Jan. 19, police said.

The statue, the only one of the seven yet to be recovered, will be returned to the museum as soon as it is allowed by the authorities conducting the investigation.

Dutch police arrested two men on Jan. 18 in connection with the theft of the statues a day earlier. The thieves smashed through the museum's garden fence with a vehicle Wednesday and ignored iron statues, indicating they may have been after the bronze for their value as metal.

The museum said the statues cannot be sold on the commercial art market as they are well documented. It did not disclose their value.

The museum is in the former home of late U.S. artist and steel heir William Singer.

They only wanted to steal it because it was made out of bronze, and it's 90 kilogrammes would have been worth around €450,-. The statue, however, is insured for a price of €1,000,000.- and the last sold copy of the same statue was worth twice as much. And now this one is in a very bad state because of a lousy €450,-. His rightleg and leftarm have disappeared, his torso and head are covered in deep cuts and his head has turned around because of the heath of the idiots "work". It has lost all it's worth now, and I'm not speaking of it's money value, but of it's artistic value. People like that should be locked away.

Also, seriously... who DOESN'T know The Thinker by Rodin and could have vaguely assumed it was probably worth a little more than the bronze-price alone? At least then it would still be in one piece!
