Portishead on Monday was amazing. Beth Gibbons' voice just goes straight through your soul and the new stuff is just very good. I especially loved Silence and We Carry On (the first and the last song of the set). They really did a nicely balanced setlist, with lots of new stuff from the upcoming album and their big ones from before. Mysterons, Glory Box, Numb, Sour Times, Roads... and an amazing striped down Wandering Star which was followed by the pulsing new single, Machine Gun.

Also, Portishead must be the shyest band I've ever seen. That really just adds to the heartbreaking voice of Beth and the whole atmosphere. I had ridiculous good spots in the crowd (third row, in the middle) and enjoyed myself immensely. Too bad I can never take good pictures in the HMH.
